Suzy:
I'm a pretty patient person. But, seriously. Govt stuff can really piss me off. Especially when it's my own govt.
If you don't agree with what your federal government is doing, stop supporting them in the form of federal income tax. There's no law that says you have to pay it anyway.
(As a side note, of course the video link above is leftist propaganda. I recognize that. But you have to admit that the argument is valid: that if the federal government wants to throw you in jail for committing a crime, they should be able to point out the law that makes it illegal. THEY CAN'T. You pay federal income taxes on a VOLUNTARY basis.)
Love you all. Kisses.

I don't know how the urban legend got started that there's no law saying people have to pay income tax. Say what you want about its constitutionality, but it is a law.
But yes, there's a lot of stuff to be pissed off about. Don't even get me started about retroactive immunity for telecoms.
Ditto what Matt said. But also, the 16th Amendment explicitly gives congress the power to collect income taxes.
Completely unrelated comment: I came across this article recently, and thought you guys might be interested in reading it. It's kinda long, but worth it:

Emma, couldn't get your link to work :(
Yes, I know about the 16th amendment. But Congress doesn't collect income taxes, the IRS does. And, the creation of the IRS was never ratified by the states to be passed into law. Watch the video.
The creation of the IRS was originally enacted by the Revenue Act of 1862 which was passed by Congress and signed by President Lincoln. It was called the Commissioner of Internal Revenue then and underwent a few name changes before finally becoming the IRS.
I have seen the video and I have seen the refutations to the video, and the refuters appear to have the facts on their side. Here is a very good analysis by a law professor of the arguments made in the film. I believe that Russo claims the 16th Amendment was never ratified which is also completely false.
Legality of federal income tax confirmed; I stand corrected. Thank you for those links, Deckard P.
Still pissed, and still don't want to financially support a federal government that I don't agree with in even the slightest way. :(
No problem, Beitling V. And I agree with you that it sucks.
Is Kadelyn still up there? I was hoping to get a chance to video chat with you guys all at once. Sally might feel well enough to do it tonight if you guys can.
My bad... I should have watched the video first. And I lost that link. But a girl in my class is going to be teaching English in Spain in the fall, and I gave her your email address. I hope that was okay.
