In Chicago: Step One Completed

Just in case any of you were worried, we made it here just fine. Matt and his roomie are treating Greg and me to sushi tonight, then tomorrow we get our visas and passports from the Spanish Consulate.

For all you kids who like to travel and haven't heard, you should check out megabus.com for super cheap bus tickets. Greg and I traveled to Chicago for $8 each. From KC it only goes to St. Louis and Chicago, but Chicago is a hub (or so I hear) and you can go pretty much wherever from here. The bus was pretty nice, especially for the ticket price. It's a charter bus, and the seats recline, there's a bathroom on the back, and there were two movies played during our trip. You should consider it.

Also, if you are looking for cheap airfare to Europe, check out the German airline lufthansa (lufthansa.com). Especially sign up for them to send you cheap deal student specials (they never say you actually have to show them your student ID), cuz Greg and I are flying out for around $400 per person. A few weeks ago you could fly from Chicago to Florence for around $360 round trip, and once you get over to Europe they tell me it's pretty easy to get around. On public transit, you dirty minds you!

That Luftansa website is here at lufthansa.com (notice the spelling... I think when we told people we omitted the 'h') and the student lufthansa website is here at lufthansa-usa.com but you ::supposedly:: need a student id. For this student-only site, the login is "Student" and the password is "Travel" w/out the quotes, of course.

The MegaBus website for those St. Louisians and Chicagoians is http://megabus.com/us/. Apparently, the earlier you buy these tickets, the better your deal is. As weeks go by, they increase the price a dollar or two. It turned out to be a pretty good ride (we got the only two seats that had the two seats in front of them backwards / facing us. Thus, we were totally able to stretch out to the greatest extent :P

I hope everyone else is doing just as well. It was fantastic to see everyone of you that were able to join us before we headed out on Saturday. Suzy and I are ready to continue on our trek across continents and are both glad that we were able to spend our last few days with everyone.

One last thing!
I know I bugged everyone about emails and such but most people didn't include (mainly because I forgot to tell them... the joys of ignorance) any im and/or Skype screennames. This last one is of uber importance because it allows us (if you have a microphone and video cam) to have free video chats with you guys! Skype is the most popular VoIP client (think a slightlier complex chat program) and is completely free for computer-to-computer calls despite being cross-continents. It's set up just like your AIM or MSN except during the chat, you can click to have a video conference (if you don't have a video cam, you can still see us, we just can't see you. But you have to have a mic). Totally sweet, I know! So anyone that would want to actually talk to us this next year (and possibly relatively often) get Skype at here for those few of us Mac owners or here for those Windows owners and shoot me an email with your IM screennames and your Skype screenname. If I didn't get your email address (or the one you most regularly check) make sure that is included, too. I know what you're thinking: "if I send an email, you'll have my address." BUT what if I don't know your address so I don't know who sent it! or you send from a work or spam address that you rarely check! HA! There IS logic to my reasoning!

Oh dear... This is entirely too long so I will end it now. Keep in touch!
